  1.                            ALIEN CRAFT ENGINES

  3. THE IMPULSE PROPULSION ENGINE
  4.  
  5. We didn't have much data available, (during April, 1990) about the
  6. "Warp Drive Operation" of the basic Rigelian Starships but The Air 
  7. Force knows they work on the principle of PLASMA-ENERGIZED CONTAINED 
  8. ANTIMATTER.  We get the secondary impulse engine system which serves 
  9. for use at sublight speeds.  This fusion reaction is located aft of 
  10. the main saucer command section and can propel the craft at speeds 
  11. up to that of 75% of the speed of light.  The impulse drive system
  12. works by channeling hot plasma energy exhaust away from the vessel.
  13. This plasma exhaust is not the by-product of simple plasma matter
  14. generated in a laboratory invironment, but high-energy plasma 
  15. produced in a fusion-reactor containment system.  Huge amounts of 
  16. the plasma are first accelerated to high velocities along a ring 
  17. of magnetic coils, and then injected into the space-time driver 
  18. coils, the central component of the impulse engine system.  These 
  19. coils produce a limited distortion of the local space-time 
  20. continuum, (not unlike that of a local stasis field) and further 
  21. accelerate the energy and speed of the impulse engine plasmes to 
  22. near relativistic speeds of their escape.

  24. THE SPEED GEAR DRIVE PROPULSION ENGINE
  25.  
  26. The main propulsion system of the most common "Mother Ships" is 
  27. the FIF-2M, Multi-Field Speed Gear Drive.  Under Normal operation,
  28. the FIF-2M Speed Gear Drive System can propel the cruiser at a 
  29. speed of eight (8) Speed Gear, that is 8 X 8 X 8 X 8 X 8 X the 
  30. Earthian Speed of Light, with emegency speeds of Speed Gear 
  31. nine (9) and beyond.  At the heart of this massive drive system 
  32. is the MAGNIUM Crystal assembly, which controls the 
  33. matter/antimatter colisions.

  35.   They call "MAGNIUM"........MMGNIUM....or...
  36.  
  37. Magnium is the only material yet discovered that can withstand 
  38. exposure to antimatter particles for limited periods of time.  
  39. Because of its unique crystaline structure, Magnium can hold 
  40. antimatter suspended in the empty spaces between its atoms with 
  41. only negligible annihilation of either Magnium or antimatter 
  42. atoms.

  44. If a crystal is defective, its structure will permit too many 
  45. antimatter atoms to touch the normal atoms, thus degrading the 
  46. structure of the crystal itself at a measurable rate.  This is 
  47. known as Magnium decrystalization.
  48.  
  49. The Magnium crystal is housed in an armored cradle of MEGAPLASTIUM, 
  50. (or, in alien language, MMGPLTUM" or                         , the
  51. hardest substance known to the civilized races.  During normal 
  52. operations, matter and antimatter are introduced into the Speed Gear 
  53. engine core through separate plasma injectors.  The Magnium crystal 
  54. assembly is placed directly in the path of the two matter streams, 
  55. which would otherwise collide with an explosive release of energy.
  56. Instead, particles of antimatter slip through the face of the Magnium
  57. crystal housed in the assembly block, the antimatter atoms splitting 
  58. apart in reaction to the Magnium atoms, then recombining in a 
  59. high-energy combination.

  61. These newly combined atoms receive additional energy charges as they 
  62. pass from one crystal to the next in the assembly.  Naturally, a few
  63. atoms of Magnium and antimatter will collide on the crystal's surface, 
  64. but a surrounding magnetic coil contains the energy and radiation 
  65. from these collisions.

  67. The streams of Magnium, energized antimatter coming from the Magnium 
  68. crystal assembly, now split into separate plasma streams that are 
  69. magnetically channeled along power transfer nacelles, the modified
  70. antimatter streams, which results in mutual annihilation and the 
  71. release of enormous energy.  A by-product of the destruction of
  72. Magnium, energized atoms of antimatter is the release of unique
  73. electromagnetic properties that produce the Speed Gear Field 
  74. surrounding the Mother Ship.

  76. All Speed Gear Drives Fall Into Three Types:
  77.  
  78. 1.  Standard Speed Gear Drive units create a single Speed Gear Field 
  79. that surrounds the ship as it moves through space, allowing it to 
  80. move at speeds in excess of the Earthian Speed of Light.
  81.  
  82. 2.  Trans-Speed Gear Drive systems create a similar field, but 
  83. improve on the original design by projecting portions of the Speed 
  84. Gear field ahead of the ship.  This creates a natural multiplier 
  85. phenomenon, increasing speeds with only minimal increases on energy 
  86. costs.

  88. 3.  Multi-Speed Gear Drive system.  The so-called Mother Ships 
  89. combines both the above systems to create a Multi-Speed Gear Field 
  90. engine design.  Though the Mother Ship is not a true Trans-Gear Drive 
  91. vessel because of its size, its Speed Gear system does have 
  92. advantages over alternate Speed Gear Drives.

  94. The Mother Ship Speed Gear Drive functions through a pair of separate
  95. Speed Gear Drive units along each outboard engine housing.  Each of 
  96. these four (4) units projects its own Speed Gear Field ahead of the 
  97. vessel as it moves through space.  These fields overlap, which 
  98. results in high Speed Gear speeds for a vessel the size of the Mother 
  99. Ship, as well as, for most instantaneous shifts from sublight speeds 
  100. to Speed Gear speed.

  102. It also makes possible near-instantaneous jumps to higher Speed Gear 
  103. levels without the need for magnetic containment build-up time.  In
  104. older generation Speed Gear Systems, the matter-antimatter intermix
  105. temperatures within the Speed Gear Engine units had to be carefully 
  106. recalibrated to accept higher pressures before the vessel could 
  107. move from one Speed Gear level to the next.  The time needed to
  108. increase the strength of the surrounding magnetic containment 
  109. fields could require, from several earth seconds, up to several 
  110. earth minutes.
